Linux Mint friendly Wifi cards

This List contains details of Wifi card that are known to work with various flavours of Linux Mint.

Note: Daryna and later Kernels have much better WiFi support than previous.

--By Chipset:--

  • Broadcom bcm43xx, works in Linux Mint 3.1 after apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter, ndiswrapper is more stable

but in Linux Mint 7 (Gloria) works out of box, even without need to install/run anything :)

  • AirLink 101 300N Wireless PCI Adapter Model AWLH6080 works out of the box
  • AVM_FRITZ_WLAN_Stick, works in Linux Mint 3.1 and 4.0 after do this little HowTo with WPA
  • Belkin N Wireless USB Adapter, ID: 050d:8053 Belkin Components, works with ndiswrapper and rt2870.inf
  • Belkin 54g USB adapter, id 050d:705a, works out of the box using rt73usb
  • Cisco Aironet 350 series, No problems in Linux Mint 2.1 "Bea, 2.2 "Bianca" and 3.0 "Cassandra".
  • Cisco Aironet 802.11a/b/g, recognised as Atheros AR5212 802.11abg by "Restricted Drivers Manager".
  • Datel WiFiMax 802.11g WLAN Compact USB Adapter Model No. WL-685Z Works "Out of the Box" with no configuration needed with Mint 7.0 "Gloria". Supports WEP and WPA
  • Edimax EW-7108PCG PCMCIA Works right out of the box with all versions of Daryna and Elyssa. For USB-version see this post in the forum [1]
  • EDIMAX EW-7128G PCI-card (with chipset RT2561/RT61) works right out of the box with Daryna and Elyssa, supporting WPA, WPA-PSK (WPA2) and WEP, but in Cassandra only WEP works. Better data transfer rate in Elyssa.
  • Intel Pro Wireless 2100, No Problem with mini-pci card in Linux Mint 2.1 "Bea", 2.2 "Bianca", 3.0 Cassandra, 3.1 "Celena", 4.0 "Daryna" and 5.0 "Elyssa". Supports WEP and WPA.
  • Intel Pro Wireless 2200, No Problem with mini-pci card in Linux Mint 2.1 "Bea", 2.2 "Bianca", 3.0 Cassandra, 3.1 "Celena", 4.0 "Daryna" and 5.0 "Elyssa". Supports WEP and WPA.
  • Linksys WPC54G v3, works in Linux Mint 3.0 "Cassandra" after apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter and reboot.
  • Intel Pro Wireless 3945, Fully functional "out of the box" in "Cassandra" (will be notified restricted drivers are used).
  • Netgear WG111 v2 (WG111GE) USB adapter, Works out of the box with Elyssa, but you wouldn't know it - the dongle's light will only blink once, and no detection dialog is displayed. Wait a minute or so and wireless networks should be detected. Works fine in Cassandra out of the box.
  • Linksys WUSB54G v4 Works fine out of the box with Linux Mint 4.0.
  • Linksys WPC11 v3 PCMCIA Card , works out of the box in any Linux I've tried it on. An old 16bit card, not cardbus. Also v2.5 works, versions from 4 up not so good (require ndiswrapper).
  • Dynex Wireless G Desktop Card Model DX-WGDTC , Just put it in and then installed Celena (Linux Mint 3.1 BETA 017). Wireless just worked. Haven't tested encryption. Note: Dynex is the Best Buy brand, so this is probably only available at Best Buy. Requires a 32-bit PCI slot.Works
  • Encore Wireless Super-G cards ENLWI-SG and ENPWI-SG , ENLWI-SG is PCi card requiring a 32-bit PCI slot, while ENPWI-SG is a PCMCIA card. No problems in Linux Mint 2.2 "Bianca" and 3.0 "Cassandra". Both Support WPA-PSK (WPA2) and WEP.
  • SWEEX LW051 PC-CARD 54MBPS, autodetected and configured by Daryna.
  • Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11b,g,n works on installation with Mint 6 main and Xfce in HP Pavilion DV9500T
  • Realtek "Single-Chip IEEE 802.11b/g WLAN Controller w/PCI Express Interface" works without any difficulties in Mint 7.
