Bianca KDE Edition
A lot of things happened this week and things didn't look too good for the KDE Edition. The development team was experiencing compilation problems with Kicker-Kickoff and casper problems with the LiveCD. Fortunately an announcement was made and it appears most problems were solved.
- Kicker-Kickoff although still included in the KDE Edition was replaced by "Tasty-Menu" as the default KDE Menu.
- The KDE Edition, initially based on Bianca, was rebased on Kubuntu 6.10. Although this means the KDE Edition is back on schedule and a release date should be announced soon, it also means it will be harder to switch/upgrade from Bianca to Bianca KDE Edition.
- The mint applications (mintWifi, mintDisk, mintDesktop, mintConfig, mintMenu..etc) were removed from the KDE Edition.
- The current BETA 008 ISO file is less than 700MB. If everything goes well, the KDE Edition should fit on a CD.
Bianca Light Edition
A new edition was announced. The Light Edition is an effort to bring Linux Mint to countries which legislation doesn't allow the use or distribution of the main edition. The Light Edition is basically a version of Linux Mint with all proprietary, patented and restricted technologies removed.
Release dates were announced for Bianca Light Edition:
- Beta version: 22/03/2007
- Stable version: 29/03/2007

You can visit the Linux Mint Community Portal here: http://linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php/Wikimint:Community_Portal
Among other things, a solution was found for the mintMenu focus problem under Beryl and a tutorial was published in the Community Portal: http://linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php/Fixing_MintMenu_and_Beryl_focus_problems
Romeo
Envy 0.9.1 amd Remastersys 1.5 were added to Romeo. Both packages need 2 more positive feedback to make their way into Stable.
Envy 0.9.1 is significant step forward compared to Envy 0.8.2. It comes with a new GUI and a lot of improvements. Remastersys brings more flexibility (a configurable /etc/remastersys file) and a few bug fixes.
