Bianca BETA 014

Bianca BETA 014 was downloaded approximately 220,000 times and we've received a lot of feedback on it. Thanks to your posts and suggestions on the forums we've managed to improve things significantly and reduce the amount of known bugs for Bianca:

MintDisk and mintMenu were significantly improved and released respectively 2 and 4 times. The repository was upgraded with a new version of Envy and new translations for OpenOffice 2.1 (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Swedish, Danish).

We also received a lot of help on isolinux and the LiveCD will be available in English, French, Spanish, Turkish (possibly also in German, Danish and Swedish).

Upgrade Path to Bianca

Will there be a way to upgrade to Bianca?. The answer is "Yes". If you're currently running Bea you will be able to upgrade to Bianca by following a tutorial which will be published on the Wiki after the stable release is out. If you're running Barbara, Ubuntu or a Debian based distribution you will not be able to upgrade to Bianca, however you will be able to point to Bianca's repository and benefit from the latest innovations that we put into it (mintdisk, mintwifi, mintdesktop, mintconfig, mintmenu..etc).

3D effects in Linux Mint 3.x

You probably read the announcement that the next release of Ubuntu will not come with out-of-the-box 3D effects. The mint3D project which had been shelfed after it was decided 3D effects would be "inherited" from Feisty Fawn is back on track again and one of our next priorities. Of course it is too late for mint3D to make its way into Bianca but it should come by default in version 3.0 of Linux Mint.

New artwork in Linux Mint 3.x

Carlos recently joined the Linux Mint community and produced a lot of artwork for our distribution. After the Blue Ubuntu looks of Barbara and Bea and the stylish Bianca desktop we might be looking at something completely different for version 3.0 of Linux Mint.

We do take artwork seriously and we believe we just found one of the great artists out there. Get ready for a surprise and an entirely new look in the next version of Linux Mint.
