mintUpdate 1.5 released!

Post by clem »

mintUpdate 1.5 comes with the following new features:

- Customized Icons. You can now change the icons used by the mintUpdate system tray by going in the preferences window: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/mintup ... ences-icon

It also comes with some code clean-up (configuration files and icons are now in separate folders) and it fixes the following bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mintupdate/+bug/152910

You can get the debs for it here:

http://linuxmint.com/repository/daryna/ ... 5_i386.deb
http://linuxmint.com/repository/daryna/ ... 0_i386.deb
http://linuxmint.com/repository/daryna/ ... 0_i386.deb

It should be compatible with Cassandra and Celena.

And as usual, you're more than welcome to give us your comments and feedback on this.

MintUpdate is also using Launchpad for bug tracking, translations, blueprints and answers... so if you want to:

- report bugs
- ask questions
- write blueprints for new features
- help translating

Go to http://www.launchpad.net/mintUpdate and get involved with this project.

I've got 1.4, and when I install 1.5 I get "same package already installed". Synaptic shows I already have 1.5 as well. What am I missing here?

Well holy damn that went smoothly! After installing the packages I re-started mintUpdate and voila. Nice work!

Clem,

I installed Celena 3.1 last week. I did a completely clean installation, including my /home partition. I've been playing a lot so there was really nothing to keep anyway :)

I used mintUpdate 1.4 all this past weekend and had no problems.

This morning, after quitting mintUpdate 1.4, I updated to 1.5, rebooted.... and mintUpdate 1.5 has yet to succesfully refresh. Instead, the pad lock on the tool bar changes to a broken icon.

Any ideas as to why 1.4 worked and 1.5 won't? Thanks!

ElEdwards: check the tooltip on the broken icon and go to /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/logs and do "ls -lrt" and look in the file that appears at the bottom.. that will give you more info.

ElementalTJ: It would if you pointed your sources.list at "deb http://www.linuxmint.com/repository daryna/" but beware of the fact that it's not considered a stable repository yet... things are moving a lot in there.

I created a fantastic "Mint" icon theme for mintupdate. How can I upload this to here? You guys will love it once you see it! :-) If anyone messages me, I'll send them the icons.

Uploaded to gnome-look.org...enjoy!

I installed 1.5, relogged and my panel was a mess, so I restarted and all was good. Thanks Clem! Now I can update it, like I stole it!

Clem,
Why does this application ask for a root password only once during a session and then never again, regardless of how much time passes? Did you design it that way? (not complaining, just wondering.) Seems like root privileges should expire after say ten minutes.

cmost: Because when you give it the password it actually launches a new mintUpdate as root and kills the one you were precedently running... so from there on you're running it in root mode.

You need to edit your sources: "gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list".

Remove the lines (or comment them by prefixing the line with a #) saying "cdrom".

Then save and close the file. Then refresh mintUpdate.

I'm running Celena. I've typed mintupdate in a terminal. I can't find it in the menu list. Where can I find mintupdate?

Cmost I'm using your icons. Great job they look much nicer than the default ones. And they look official.

jhouse59: Make sure it's installed: "apt show mintUpdate" and you also need mintupdate-gnome to get it in the menus...

Thanks. Had to add "deb http://www.linuxmint.com/repository daryna/" to the sources.list.
