Upgrade XFCE CE BETA 003 to the Final Release

Check List before doing the upgrade:
  • Backup everything important just in case something goes wrong.
  • A wired and good internet connection is needed.
  • If on a laptop make sure its plugged in to the outlet.
  • Make sure to read it more than once.
  • Make sure you understand all the instructions.
  • Make sure you follow each step exactly, it may not work correctly if you don't
  • Do not skip any step, it may not work correctly if you don't
  • Do not delete anything in the upgrade folder until the upgrade is confirmed to have worked.
  • Not doing any other work on the machine while it's upgrading is strongly recommended.
Most Important Step:
Make sure to download the zip file into the users Home folder and then right click Extract Here(example: mine would be /home/merlwiz79/upgrade)
Contents of the upgrade folder:
  • 3 scripts fullupgrade, mainupgrade, and pidginupgrade.
  • 2 folders backup(backups are put here during upgrade) and data(files that need to be installed)
  • 13 Debian packages.
Installing the Full upgrade and fixes:
  • The full upgrade removes and installs everything that was done to make the final.
  • If you don't wish to have everything listed removed then use the main upgrade.
Everything the Full upgrade removes:
  • mintconfig
  • mintdesktop
  • bittorrent
  • python-bittorrent
  • libbeagle0
  • xfburn
  • amarok, amarok-xine and dependencies
  • gcalctool
  • xubuntu-default-settings
  • pidgin 2.0.0 (the plugins are not compatible with 2.1.0)
  • desktop-effects
  • metacity
  • Also everything in the autoremove section
Everything installed or updated:
  • new repos added to the original sources.list
  • xfcemint-default-settings, xfcemintdesktop, xfcemintconfig, and xfcemint-hompage.
  • xdialog
  • catfish
  • chestnut-dialer and chestnut-dialer-gtk2
  • fusesmbtool
  • gnormalize plus the normalizer plugin and everything needed to encode into mp3, mp4, mpc, ogg, and flac.
  • wicd and wicd-autostart-plugin
  • brasero 0.6.0
  • deluge-torrent_0.5.4
  • openoffice(install/upgraded if needed), mint splash added and menu fixes
  • gimp(install/upgraded if needed) and mint splash added
  • firefox.(install/upgraded if needed) and new system default bookmarks not users.(install/upgraded if needed)
  • thunderbird upgraded to 2.0.0.5 and added to firefox for emailto: and send links.
  • pidgin 2.1.0
  • mplayer(install/upgraded if needed)
  • gqview(install/upgraded if needed)
  • hal and hal-device-manager(install/upgraded if needed)
  • exaile (install/upgraded if needed)
  • gcalctool-gtk
Running the Full upgrade:
  • Open Terminal from the Menu and run this command

    Code: Select all

    $HOME/upgrade/fullupgrade
  • Type your password and hit enter
    For your information:
    • You will not be asked any questions and everything is done by its self
    • Depending on the connection it may take a while
Installing only the Main upgrades and fixes:
  • Only use this if you didn't use the full upgrade or don't want to use the full upgrade.
Everything the Main upgrade removes:

  • gcalctool
  • xubuntu-default-settings

Other Info:
  • The Gimp and Openoffice original splashes are put in the backup folder.
  • To use the new Firefox bookmarks:
    • You can import it from the data folder.
    • You can back up your old bookmarks and then delete all the bookmarks.html from your profile in /.mozilla/firefox/xxxx.default/ and /.mozilla/firefox/xxxx.default/bookmarksbackups/(use show hidden files to find)
  • To use the new default panel delete everything in

    Code: Select all

    thunar $HOME/.config/xfce4/panel
    then close out everything and hit Control+Alt+Backspace
To use copy and paste into URL:
Default Firefox Hompage:
file:///usr/share/linuxmint/releasenotes/index.html
Original Firefox Cassandra Hompage:
