Freeze with nvidia drivers

Post by linuxviolin »

Hi everybody!

Each time I install nvidia driver at the end of a few minutes the PC freezes. All is blocked: keyboard, mouse, I must cut off the supply to start again.

That arrived on several PC including that which I currently use, it has approximately 2 months. I try with another distrib I have in dual boot, a KDE distrib, but I get the same problem.

Thus for the moment I remain with “nvâ€￾ and everything functions perfectly.

So what can I do? An idea?

Thank you very much.

The actual PC is a AMD Athlon64 X2 with 1Go RAM:

Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo Pa 1518-B3802
processor: A64 X2 3800+ AM2
mainboard: MB uATX ATI A64 AM2 PCIe VGA
memory: 2x512M DDR2
graphics: VGA NV 7300SE 64M TC PCIe TV DVI

A precision:

in the other distrib Kinfocenter indicates to me at the PCI heading that much bridges and controllers are ATI and for VGA:

VGA compatible controller:nvidia Corporation Unknown device 01d3 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Unknown device 8236
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18
Memory at fa000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable)
Memory at fb000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
Capabilities: <access denied>

I do not know if that can help to solve the problem…

Thank you by advance.

OK so nobody can help me? Nobody can help my poor GeForce 7300 SE to function with nvidia drivers? :(

I specify that the PC freezes even without surfing on the Web nor using Beryl.

This happened to me too. The drivers were installed, but xorg.ocnf was not properly edited by the installation. Please read through this thread, especially the second post by merlwiz79
