Medibuntu changed their repository

Post by clem »

Hi,

Medibuntu changed their repositories (and apparently didn't care to keep the old address), so :

- please change your medibuntu repository in /etc/apt/sources.list to:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ feisty free non-free
- there's a big chance we might not add medibuntu by default in future releases of Mint. We'll maintain the equivalent packages ourselves.

On a related note, a Firefox update probably re-branded your Web browser with Ubuntu artwork. To restore the Cassandra flash application on startup:

- Open Firefox
- Go to Edit->Preferences
- In the Main tab, "Home Page", enter the following:
file:///usr/share/linuxmint/releasenotes/index.html
One day we'll maintain our own packages... but we're still too small for that yet.

A personal welcome to reyawn. :)

Welcome to the Mint Lovers club. Wish you lots of fun.

Hello Clem,
I too was wondering what happened to the Releasenotes Splash screen.
It's very handy to have.

Greetings

peter.cmai wrote:Thanks for the update but how do we make the change. Going into the file /etc/apt/sources.list shows a medibuntu entry but when trying to save the change I'm told I can't because I don't have permission to change the file.

In any event, Mint Cassandra seems to work okay without making this change
In a KDE environment use your mouse's right button after selecting the source.list file, then use the option Actions-->Edit as root. The modifications you will make can be saved.
You can also use (KDE or GNOME) through terminal the comand gedit or pico. For example $ sudo pico /etc/apt/sources.list or $ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.
If gedit or pico are not installed you can install them first with sudo apt-get install pico (or gedit)

Use sudo ... e.g.
sudo editor-of-your-choice /etc/apt/sources.list

GNOME:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

KDE:
sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list

A "genome" is something else  So unless we are talking about advanced genetics I would assume you mean GNOME, the Linux desktop software?
