mintWifi

Post by clem »

Hi,

In Bea we will:

- include ndiswrapper 1.1 and 1.8.
- include ndisgtk (System->Administration->Windows Wireless Driver)
- include an HTML guide in /home/$USER/Documents which will explain how to install a Wireless driver under Linux Mint and which will contain the whole list of PCI IDs and links to the corresponding drivers on the Internet.
- include as many of these drivers in Linux Mint as we can.

This way the user won't need the Internet at all. And for the cards for which the driver isn't in Linux Mint, the user will be able to do all the steps all the way to actually find the proper link to download his driver, without the Internet.

We're in the process of adding these drivers, so:
If you know your PCI ID and you want the corresponding driver to be included in Bea, please tell us now

Clem

Wow, you really do think about wireless, unlike some distros that forget about them.

Thank you for seamless wireless.

Hi,

It's a bit too late, Beta 028 is going gold and no more changes are making their way in Bea.

If you want future versions of mintWifi to support your card:
- in Bea, follow the mintWifi guide to find the right driver for you.
- see if everything works fine.
- come back to me with a link to that driver and your PCI ID.

Hi,

Please follow the mintWifi guide and find out your PCI ID and the driver that works for you. Then come back to me if those two pieces of info and I'll add it to the list of supported hardware and put the driver in mintWifi.

mintWifi 1.0 is now present as a deb in the repository. It's the same as the one you already have installed in Bea, it just comes as a deb. If you want to help with testing things out and automatically receive notifications when future versions of mintWifi get released, install mintWifi through synaptic.

Have you changed the kernel at all so that we dont have that really irritating USB power limitation of 500mA to devices that require 900mA??

Hi,

I use an already supported wifi card (MSI PC54G2 PCI), and I'm quite satisfied. But: One thing is, I changed to the ndiswrapper method because the Linux driver had connection problems (the wifi signal I recieve is quiete weak). I started to use the Windows driver but I although the connection is a bit better now, I cannot be sure that the system changed its driver - there is simply no way of proving that ndiswrapper has taken over. Or I am wrong and doesn't know how to check it. Either way, it would be nice to have it displayed clearly.
The other thing is, that the included ralink Windows driver seems to be not the newest one. Could you check that one?
