I have compiled my own version of SeaMonkey, just to see if I could.(full suite)
I have made a .deb to install it and it has been tested in Celena and Daryna.
Removed old link:

Compile with these options:
--enable-application=suite --enable-optimize=-Os --disable-tests --enable-svg
--enable-canvas --with-default-mozilla-five-home=/usr/lib/seamonkey-1.1.5
--libdir=/usr/lib --mandir=/usr/share/man --prefix=/usr --with-system-jpeg
--with-system-png --with-system-mng --with-system-zlib --disable-installer

Changes to Default Configuration:
Added Linux mint bookmarks
Disabled IPv6
Start page: http://www.linuxmint.com/start/
Added Go to Navigation Toolbar
Added wiki and Ubuntu package search engines
Added Launcher to menu
Default downloads directory ~/Downloads
Opens tabs instead of window for middle click(scroll wheel button).
Flash, Java, Shockwave, and all of mplayer plugins installed by default(only works if the programs are installed)

Tell me what you think.

No problem.
I just found out that I compiled it so you would have to uninstall to upgrade to the next version.
I will fix that in the next release.

Updated package:
http://rapidshare.com/files/65256923/se ... l.deb.html
http://www.MegaShare.com/298707

Remove all old SeaMonkey installs.(including my last .deb)
Delete these folders:
/usr/lib/seamonkey-1.1.5
/usr/include/seamonkey-1.1.5
/usr/share/idl/seamonkey-1.1.5

Now install the Latest .deb
The next release all you have to do is install and it will be updated.
Has links for:
Java Plugin
Flash Plugin
mozilla-mplayer Plugins
If any of these are installed you don't have to do anything.
I have compiled mozilla-mplayer for Daryna so you don't have to keep Firefox installed.
I couldn't for Celena, since it wanted to remove gnome-panel to install the compiling dependencies.

Any problems tell me and i will try to fix it.

Exactly I am not a fan of SeaMonkey and I use Firefox on all my systems.

I just made a .deb to make it easy for anyone to install.

Also here is mozilla-mplayer that supports Seamonkey(Daryna Only).
removed new update

Changes:
Added SeaMonkey to the Dependences
Added plugin links for SeaMonkey

No need to keep Firefox if you don't want to.

@merlwiz79
I briefly tested your first version of SeaMonkey and I must say:
I have never seen so many pop-up ads opening in new tabs as with that browser (after I left IE5 left behind).

Of course I can install AdBlock Plus etc, but maybe there is something wrong with default settings?

Sorry I recompiled it with different options and forgot to set the pop-up blocker to be on by default.
Will fix and release a new one soon.

Thanks for the info. :)

SeaMonkey update

Post by merlwiz79 »

Not sure why popup blocker doesn't come enabled by default. :?
So I changed that preference so now it does.
If you have seamonkey_1.1.5-mint2_all.deb installed just update.
http://www.MegaShare.com/299205

If you had the seamonkey_1.1.5-mint1_all.deb you need to uninstall it 1st
Then make sure these folders were deleted.

Post by merlwiz79 »

Updated mozilla-mplayer for Daryna only the last one conflicted with SeaMonkey.
This one doesn't.

SeaMonkey-1.1.7
This is compiled like the older version and should have all the same settings.

linux newbie here

im glad to see a seamonkey for Mint!

im running 3.0 XFCE on a pretty old rig PIII 667mghz 768RAM

i like firefox but i need a much lighter browser option sometimes. Opera would have been my choice but unfortunately with no Flash right now, i dont see the point

i like Seamonkey (i use it in Puppy) would like to install it

the question is how do i remove it if i want to get rid of it? it wont show up synaptic i assume...

It should be in synaptic.
Just search and it will show up.
I hope you like it.
The easiest would just to run this in a Terminal.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove seamonkey

I think Flock should be the default for Mint 5.0 (Its also faster at loading pages and faster at loading the app itself) - http://www.flock.com
Firefox should be for the professional edition (You can guess why after knowing what Flock is)
And Epiphany for the lighter editions (XFCE and Fluxbox)

Cheers,

I wasn't clear enough.
After you download and install from here, it will show up in Synaptic. http://www.4shared.com/file/32107046/93 ... 1_all.html
Then you can use synaptic to remove it.

These customized debs are quite nice but for those of you who wish to install the latest version of Mozilla stock Seamoney (or Firefox or Thunderbird) yourself, you can do so easy as pie with Ubuntuzilla. Find more details here: http://ubuntuzilla.wiki.sourceforge.net/
