Hi Scorp 123,
Let's have a poetry competition here. :)

A POEM
A poem is a handy tool
To make yourself a silly fool
For everyone to have a ball
To have a crazy free for all

Enjoy yourself, enjoy your youth
Before you get your wisdom tooth
Life my friends, too short to waste
So have the beer of your taste
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself
Before they put you on the shelf

Cheers, the Blogger

Sorry, no time for poetry competitions  I'm in the process of leaving my current employer and joining an exciting (relatively) new start-up company which a few buddies of mine founded ... So right now I'm focussed on that

Naaah, not really

But after having spent the past seven years in a company with over 100'000 employees and having experienced stupid managers and even more stupid bureaucracy first-hand I am really looking forward to going into a small company with just a couple of my former co-workers, friends and colleagues. Chances for having to deal with stupid managers again are very dim, for we don't have any managers yet :D On the downside: if we make stupid business decisions we will immediately feel the effects, as we don't have dozens of other departments whose profits might compensate for our losses ... If we screw up, then the entire company screws up, there is nobody else to blame, there is no "other department" that can help out making profits. There's just the few of us. ... But then again: No risk no fun

Maybe, but it's no fun to see a large sum go down the drain when your company fails because someone else screwed up :(

More likely to happen in a large company ... I've seen stupid managers waste money (millions!) on stupid acquisitions ... and even one really silly company merger. And how do managers react in order to save money again? They fire support people, move the support to India and other places. And then when the customers are totally unhappy with that, they move the product support for some VIP customers back to Europe and North America, only to realise that they have no engineers left who could satisfy those customer demands. So they have to hire people again (but corporate policy forbids them to hire the same people they just fired ...) and have to train them again, and those "VIP customers" get even unhappier than before and in the end cancel the contract. No VIP customer = no need for expensive engineers ==> product support moved back to India, more people fired.

I have seen them do such nonsense.

In a small company with your buddies all this is less likely to happen I guess. Our "chain of command" is really really short, no stupid managers in between with their own egos and hidden agendas, no stupid infighting between various groups and their managers, no need to fear that an Indian guy might take my job ... On the contrary: Many customers see the fact that we are 100% local as a big big bonus. So we're going to build on that I guess ...

Hi everybody,
First I would like again to express my best wishes to Scorp on his new venture.

## Working for other people you are dispensable, working for yourself you are indispensable :)

Regards, the Blogger

On Being Your Own Boss

Mutt
: Why don't you give up your expensive habits Jeff?
If you didn't drink expensive Scotch, and didn't smoke for so many years,
you would be the owner of that big company across the street!
Jeff: Don't you know Mutt? That company used to belong to me!
Mutt: What happened then? Why don't you own it anymore?
Jeff: It's a long story Mutt. :(
It was nice working for myself. :) There were no other employees except myself. I liked myself since I was a very good worker.
I kept asking the boss for raises quite often, and he never refused because he liked me too much..
So, it didn't take long for the business to go bankrupt!

Found a desktop that is a left over from my business some years ago. Started it and found Windows 98. Just for fun I started to look around a bit. It did not even take five minutes before it was deep frozen solid.
Ah the wonderful times of restarting your pc several times an hour :):)

And I found a bunch of disks with MS-DOS and Windows 3.xx    OMFG ... what fun that was  So out of curiosity I installed it into VMware and guess what? I promptly got a few ugly crashes :D

It's nice to know that Microsoft products are so reliable even after sooo many years and in a virtual environment  ...

(... hard to believe that people --including myself here-- were once so crazy to have this stuff run for real on their expensive hardware! )

Hello fellow Minties and guests,

Today I am here at the Mint Café. Cassandra asked me to take a look, since she will soon move in and take over. :)
I have no words to express my disappointment :(
The only living creatures I found here are the janitor (poor fellow) and a couple of dirty, ugly pets; a funny-looking cat and a vicious canine with awful, sharp teeth.
The lounge smells awful; with tons of animal excrement! :(
The bar is almost empty, with all kinds of bottles and glasses on the floor.
It seems that the janitor and the two varmins consumed almost everything,
taking advantage of the absence of the manager.

BTW, I was told that he ran away with this woman (her name is Bianca).
He took with him all the cash in the safe, and he is having a ball somewhere
in the Greek islands (lucky b........rd). The janitor said he is somewhere in a place called Tzatziki Island.

After reporting back to Cassandra, she pleaded with me to take over the management of the Mint Café. Since I could not resist her charm, I have decided to do some work here and re-organize things.
She will not move in unless I throw away everything that had to do with Bianca.

First problem: funds.
Your generous contributions here will be greatly appreciated.
We need to resupply the Bar, since it is almost depleted. So, even your contributions in beverages will help tremendously.

We also must renovate and rename the CasaBianca Room to 'Cassandra Bliss'
The Tropical Lounge is fortunately in very good condition.

I heard rumors that Cassandra is here already. :o

So until tomorrow, Hasta Maniana.!
The new manager of the Mint Café,
Blogger

PS! EXTRA! EXTRA! Cassandra will definitely be here today
EDIT: 16:30 GMT. Cassandra Gold is now a reality!

CASSANDRA'S CURSE

Cassandra's prediction
For the worst affliction
To fall on those who want her doom
Their end will be the darkest tomb
In Hades they will churn and burn
In Hades they will twist and turn

Pandora will unleash the plague
And they will run to hide in vague
To him who's not an avid friend
Pandora's ills will be the end
Pandora's box will have the curse
None other could there be so worse

Image

Medusa will unleash her wrath
To him that stumbles in her path
There is no mercy for the man
Who is the victim in her plan

AN ODE TO CASSANDRA

A legend dressed in green and blue
A French and Irish magic brew
The pretty queen is here at last
Her spell on us to hurl and cast

She is a lovely pretty lass
With elegance and full of class
Our hearts she came to touch and steal
The magic of her charm to feel

Goddess of love and sex-apeal
Our broken hearts will never heal
How much our lives have been enriched
O Goddess of charm, of mortals bewitched
