What are backports?

Post by Lolo Uila »

I noticed there are some programs listed twice in the Mint Software Portal.

Audacity
Audacity (backport)

Exaile
Exaile (backport)

Deluge
Deluge (backport)

In each case they have the same decription, so what is the difference?

Thanks, Tim

Backports are typically newer versions than the ones you get from the repositories. They basically come from different repositories. In the portal, backports typically come from a 3rd party repository and allow you to install the latest version of the package.
