I'm really interested in this computer, but the resolution will make even web browsing a bit of a pain. Once that is sorted then sign me up!

I will be getting one in the new year (with post birthday/chrimble cash!), and mint would be cool. But I don't know if I'd want to tinker too much...

I dont think it would run Mint especially well. I'd just keep the stock OS.

hell you could even run XP perfectly fine with that.
Thats why they offer it with xp, I think!
it probably would run mint fine, but since I am prolly gonna get the 4G version (with 512MB of RAM-although it uses standard DIMM modules, so you can upgrade it--Hooray!), the stock os will be fine, as long as I can get the terminal up, I'm a happy bunny. monkey. Or something.

You wrote it could run XP perfectly? I've never seen a perfectly running XP. And why replace a good linux system with XP? it just doesn't make sense to me ;-)

Eee

As enthusiastic I read the first messages about eee, as disappointed I am in seing first pictures of it.

The screen is too tiny

So I won't buy one as long as there are no larger screens available (did you see the big wasted space as frame around the display?) If this was better it'd be really nice

Well I just saw one this past weekend at a local store. And I must say I'm quite impressed it is small if you have large hands, then again its still better then using something like a blackberry. I have to agree the screen should have been bigger instead of having the black frame aound it, then again I'm sure they must have done that to keep cost down.

I already have a nokia n800, which is an excellent device, much more portable, but underpowered. I would have loved to pick up the eee if I didn't have the n800.

Hopefully their next revision will be spot on.

Wooo, the so called "Advanced Mode" can actually be unlocked. Read this tutorial to see how. Seeing it running a normal desktop does kinda dispel the magic a little though, it makes you realise its basically a small laptop with a flash harddrive.

in terms of size, carlos, thats kinda the point, having a tiny laptop which you can perform basic tasks on (like, word processing, browsing the internet) so screen size isn't really a major issue for people like me who just want it for what it does. And a bit of tinkering :D

Except the screen is currently surrounded by big speakers and a webcam and the screen could easily be an inch or two bigger if that wasn't the case. Go see how much smaller the display is than the actual size of the unit.

mobile computing

I'm ashamed to confess that I own a HTC winmobile 6.0 cellular phone with keyboard and such. 3 inch screen, I think.

It does all I need it to do. HTC does some fine devices, unfortunately with the wrong os.

xda-developers haven't yet finished porting linux, so I will have to stick with it...
