Hi everyone,
I've got a new external HDD and it mostly works well with Mint. I noticed however, that the various folders that I have copied as a manual back up to the drive all have their permissions set as "root". Why is this so?
Is there are command line solution to changing all the files in the folders to my user name rather than being owned by root in one of two easy steps rather than one by one? (chmod something or other????).
Regards
John

Re: External hard drive permissions
Thanks Jeremy, I 'll have a look and see what comes of it. I noticed on the forum and Ubuntu forum that this is a known problem. Hopefully it will be fixed in later releases.
