Do you have any chance of disabling the lid button?
I have very little first hand knowledge of Dell but what about an entry in BIOS to disable?

The DSDT should be valid, but I have no experience (well behaved hardware )

Perhaps...
Mint main (gnome) was forked off Ubuntu with Barbara based on Edgy and has evolved ever since.
Daryna KDE is based on Kubuntu 7.10 and mintified (a h-ll of a lot of work )
This is not good from a pure support perspective though - Ubuntu changed a lot in printing between Feisty and Gutsy while Daryna main kept it basically as in Feisty.... Has not much to do with acpi, but it implies that there may be other differences that has to do with acpi.
I don't get very many questions about it though
