How to install OpenOffice3

Post by sparbier »

Since there are lots of different advices on how to upgrade to oo3, I was a little concerned not to break my beloved LM. So let me tell you what worked fine for me on my LM Elyssa 32 Bit:

Download the Debian based tar.gz file for your language version of openoffice 3 from the openoffice.org site (or torrent or whatever...).

Right click on the downloaded file and choose 'extract here'.

Navigate into the folder it creates and then to the subdirectory "DEBS".

Right click and choose 'Open Terminal here'

type:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get autoremove openoffice.org
sudo apt-get autoremove openoffice.org-core
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Once completed navigate into the "desktop-integration" folder and install the desktop integration deb.
Be aware that you remove oo2.4x with this procedure, but oo3 can handle all old files.

Best wishes from Germany
Jens

I followed these instructions exactly. Everything seems to have installed fine, but no menu's.

I'm using Linux Mint 5 64bit. Under All Applications I don't even see a menu for "Office", and no trace of Openoffice at all.

Same problem here. I am back using oo 2.4 after a Synaptic delete and reinstall. I too am using Mint 5 64 bit.

Ok ... I just edited my original post. I'm using a 32 Bit system.
Here it integrated nicely into the menu.

Maybe there are some helpful 64 Bit users in MintSpace who have already solved this issue.

Just a little update:

This procedure also worked for me under LM6 Felicia 32Bit.
