2.0.0.12 is the latest and that's what's in an updated Daryna

Yes, I had upgraded to this version but have been having problems with stability of Firefox and reinstalled via the package manager.

Mint Version 2.0.0.6 is now installed. How do I reset the dbase to allow update to latest version?

Run mintUpdate. Are you using Daryna or an older version?

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install firefox
That should update the repos and to the newest version available of Firefox.

Which version of Mint do you have?
Maybe Mint 2.0.0.12 is not there for all versions of Mint

I'm running the Daryna version. I could download the latest version from Mozilla. Good suggestion but there are a number of issues:

There used to be a link to the Mint firefox 2.0.0.12 on the forum which I can no longer find.

I cannot remember whether the updater did this automatically, I think that it did. In which case, having decided to reinstall firefox (in oder to see if that would stop it freezing - pdf downloads, some java scripts) why does synaptic reinstall the old version?

Running Apt-get or dpkg from CLI returns info that the latest package is installed. However opening the Linux Mint repository shows that the latest version 2.0.0.12 of Firefox is clearly present.

Having stumbled across news from Clem about financial gains from the Mint version of firefox I'm happy to give it a go.

And incidentally, Firefox 3 beta is significantly faster than 2 so am looking forward to its release The light client approach to computing is useful but there is a risk of the browser becoming the bottleneck in the system.

Anyway fellas it's been a learning experience, I've installed the latest version from the Mint repo.

Note that in so doing I had to tidy up the menu launcher - had my beta 4 firefox 3 open during removal of 2.0.0.6 and install of 2.0.0.12, result the menu was pulling up the beta 4 (surprising as it's not at all integrated into the system) - found that adding new menu item puts the launcher window behind the menu window...

Did you get this fixed?

In your post where you showed your sudo aptitude update output, are those sources with "ign" in front of them ones that are ignored?

Post a copy of your /etc/apt/sources.list file if you would please.

Oliverjames,

You must find the repository that Firefox 2.0.0.6 is in and disable it. Sorry, I don't have time to look it up right now for you.

Then refresh your package list and you should be able to install 2.0.0.12.

Remember, 2.0.0.6 is a larger number than 2.0.0.12 and the package manager always defaults the the larger version number.

Hi FastZ,

I fixed it by downloading the file from the Daryna directory and then installing that.
I'm not sure about the ign meaning but possibly ignore

Here is a copy of the sources list file

Thanks Fred, I'll know how to deal with this in the future. As you see from more posting I found a workaround and now have version 2.0.0.12

Hi,

Firefox version 2.0.0.13 has been released

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/?from=getfirefox

This firefox version 2.0.0.12, sometimes has been crashing now and them > force quit (used)

Sometimes firefox closes suddenly but with a minimal frequency

I've read Mint Linux v. 5.0 will bring us firefox version 3

So, let's wait for a firefox new update for Mint Linux v. 4.0 Daryna (Gnome - Kde)

I use Mint Google as much i can and i appreciate that
