Make My Own Release...?

Post by plowran »

Hi everyone
Is it possibly to install Mint change the themes the way I want them and then make a new bootable/Installable ISO?

Yes,

add this to your source.list:
"sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list"
"deb http://www.remastersys.klikit.org/repository remastersys/ #Remastersys"

And type this into your console:
"sudo apt-get install remastersys"

At least run this:
kdesu /usr/bin/remastersys-gui

Hi Darkone,

thats sounds good. I never know about this tool?!It is recommend to use the vesa driver before remastering? Because, I ask me, if I have the nvidia driver installed and I make a remaster for somebody, who has a ati card in his computer. It is possible, that xorg use an another driver as the nvidia?

Thanks

For a year I've install a debian system for my school, than change evrything from the system, at least only the datadrive was original. And debian do his job good.

Hi

As KDE user, I just apt-get install kde, I then removed Gnome (and
Mono) customised my Kde, and used it to make my "own" distro
1.6GB, but works fine on DVD

Ahh. I'll use this, after I get Mint to how I want it. No more 2 days customizing after a drive wipe. (1-2 times a week. I like to try dif. os's.)

I found this topic "by accident"
Use "vesa" if you are going to use it on different computers - vesa is always there

Why not get a one terrabyte HDD Partition it down to 100 10GIG partitions then you can try all the Distros you want 8)

I clicked on your link.. <http://www.remastersys.klikit.org/repository> I get this:
"Not Found
The requested URL /repository was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I am experiencing only grief in trying to get remastersys to do anything, but eat a CD...
I make the copy, and it says it's in home-file.. I finds it, and makes the CD, but the CD does nothing... How do you make remastersdys install the OS into another hd..? I've been trying to make this dern-thing work since Ubuntu 700's.. It's so frustrating... It almost makes me want to fling the computer out the window, like Widows did so often... Ever tried to make a distro-CD with a Widows OS..? It's like "trying to walk on red-hot broken glass and poo"... I must have wasted a hundred hours trying to get a Widows OS to make a functional copy of a tweaked OS... I thinks the only way one can get Widows to make that copy, is to pay a computer shop a couple hundred bucks to do it... How is it done in Mint with remastersys, so it actually works to install the tweeked OS into another hd..?

Dragonspirit, please do not resurrect +1 year old threads (including the game freeze topic from 2008). Part of the problem is the information is outdated.

If you wish to try remastersys see this information:
Where can I get remastersys?
The Remastersys repository needs to be added to your /etc/apt/sources.list

Paste the following into the sources.list:

For Gutsy and Earlier - up to version 2.0.11-1 (Mint 6/Earlier)

Code: Select all

# Remastersys
deb http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository remastersys/
For Hardy and Newer with original grub - version 2.0.12-1 and up (Mint 7)

Code: Select all

# Remastersys
deb http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository ubuntu/
For Karmic and Newer with grub2 - version 2.0.13-1 and up (Mint 8 )

Code: Select all

# Remastersys
deb http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository karmic/
Then simply either reload in Synaptic or you can "sudo apt-get update" and install remastersys.
That was taken from here -> http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/ubuntu.html
The links are not meant to be clicked on and browsed, but added to /etc/apt/sources.list as the instructions note.

Thanks for the valuable link...

If the forum doesn't permit new posts in old reference threads, then why isn't this thread locked, or deleted?..

It's not a forum rule per say, more of a friendly suggestion. Typically the information in the thread is no longer relevant - as was the case here. There's a chance people will try to make decisions on outdated and/or wrong instructions. It makes more sense to create a new thread with your questions then revive an old thread.

And I'll try to move old topics to a read only archive - with a warning label :) but to do this the forum needs to be modified
