How much is for server rent, how much is for new hardware and whats fore sallery?
Andreas: At present there is no company behind Linux Mint, there is only me. I don’t get a salary from Linux Mint because:
– Linux Mint isn’t a company yet, it’s basically me legally
– Linux Mint doesn’t generate enough money for me to leave my job and work full time on it
So really what’s happening right now, is that I do Linux Mint during my spare/sleep time, there is no real difference between my money and Linux Mint money. Linux Mint generating money means I get more money myself and the direct consequence of this is that I get more financially independent and I can have more time to dedicate on the project. So far it’s been working great and even within my own company. When Linux Mint needs to pay or to buy something, the same happens, I pay for it or buy it myself. Again, apart from tax and accountancy purpose there is no difference between me, legally or financially, and Linux Mint. Here in Ireland, my activity with Linux Mint is registered as a “Sole Trader” under a business name. So again, it’s basically me and just me.
To give you an indication on what the charges are. We’re around $150/month on hosting and various little charges, so we’re/I’m doing pretty well.
The plan is for the income to go higher so I can quit my job and create an independent limited company. From there on I can really hire myself and give myself a salary. That’s where the distinction between me and Mint will start and where Mint will start to exist as a legal institution/person.
